About United Way of Garfield County

Our mission is to help ordinary people to make an extraordinary difference by assisting those most in need throughout our communities. United, we change our community for good.

Locally Run, Nationally Connected:
As a member of United Way of America/United Way Worldwide, our local office pays a nominal membership fee, based on income, to United Way of America. Membership dues allow us to join more than 1,300 other offices across the county that distribute designated-donor contributions back to us from businesses and employees located in other parts of Colorado and outside the state.

Service Area: Our independently run, local United Way office covers the Western Slope of Colorado from Battlement Mesa to the Maroon Bells. Our service area, shown on this map, includes the I-70 corridor beginning at the western edge of Garfield County and heading east to Glenwood Springs. From the intersection of I-70 and Highway 82 in Glenwood Springs, our service area then encompasses the region located south and east, and all the way to Aspen. In between, our service area also covers Carbondale, where Highway 133 heads up to Redstone and Marble. From Carbondale, our service area includes El Jebel and Basalt, where Garfield, Eagle and Pitkin counties meet.

Tax Status: Our local United Way office is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization that is recognized by the U.S. Federal Government and the State of Colorado. Donors can be assured that 100 percent of local contributions are used in our local service area to help agencies and organizations and to support United Way programs. United Way’s most-recent tax report is available on the Secretary of State’s website or by calling (303) 625-8189.

Grants: Contributions raised in the fall campaign are distributed the following year. In early spring, a volunteer group of local citizens will review agency grant requests and determine the level of support to each local organization. Information will be disseminated to the public through local media outlets.

Prescription Discounts: United Way offers local residents the opportunity to save money on prescription medications by obtaining and using a free FamilyWize prescription discount card. To learn more about this program, click this link or the orange FamilyWize card below.

Referrals: United Way of Garfield County is a active participant in Colorado's statewide 2-1-1 information and assistance program. More information about the 2-1-1 Program here in Western Colorado can be found by clicking this link or the 2-1-1 logo below.
